Hello Friends,
Today I decided to divest my life from Facebook, which is the only social media platform I am a part of (I may still have a MySpace account out there). I hope that you divest too.
As I thought through the decision, a couple of concerns came to mind. The first was how do I stay in touch with all of my friends, and that was how I ended up here with a new website. My plan was to reach out to all of my friends with a personal message. In that personal message I shared all my contact information (phone, email, website). I encouraged all those friends that whenever they think of me that they should go ahead and email, text, or call me. I really do want to stay in touch, I just can no longer do it through the medium of these large social media outlets.
I created this website to do my part in staying in touch with all my friends and family. I will be sharing more about my life here than I ever did on the social media platforms because I have control of who will be accessing all that data.
The second concern I had was how it would affect my business. I had created several business pages, and I wanted to make sure that closing my account would not be detrimental to my business. I looked into the analytics, and found that (surprise, surprise) my Facebook business pages had little affect on driving traffic to my website. I recommend that if this is a concern of yours, look into the analytics and see if your Facebook pages are really doing anything for you.
I know that my little decision is just a drop in the ocean compared to the millions of users on these platforms, but it is all that I can do right now.
If you need help finding ways to get off the social media, please reach out to me. I am glad to help.
